Using Thicker Paper on a Wide Format Printer
When you're printing on specialty paper, such as extremely thick cardstock or very delicate, thin sheets, you might occasionally notice that the printed image appears dirty or smudged. This often happens because the paper isn't moving through the machine smoothly, causing it to rub against the print heads or leading to ink blurring due to improper contact.
To prevent these frustrating issues and ensure crisp, clean results on all your unique paper types, it's crucial to adjust the height of the print heads for each specific paper supply location. This simple adjustment optimises the distance between the print head and the paper, accommodating its thickness and allowing for perfect ink transfer.
Here's how to interpret the settings for head height adjustment:
- Off: Head Height Standard - This is the default setting, ideal for regular office paper.
- Weak: Head Height Higher - Choose this option when using slightly thicker paper to prevent rubbing.
- Strong: Head Height Highest - This setting provides the maximum clearance, perfect for very thick media like cardstock or textured papers, and can also be useful for extremely thin papers that might otherwise ripple and touch the print heads.
